Batman

Against my better judgement and a few days of relentless coaxing from my boys I took them to see the new Batman movie, and surprisingly it was pretty good. It wasn't as horrific as I thought it would be. My son told me I need to watch the 1st and 2nd of the trilogy over the next few days and he would be glad to sit with me through them. I'm sure he would ha.

My little guy was a little hesitant to go and see it because of what happened in Colorado. From my point of view I had to explain to him that when good things go bad, you can't let that carry through and determine how that is going to affect everything you want to do in life. If that was the case, we would all be living in metal box. After saying that, I had to put it in layman's terms for him; in other words Matthew, don't be afraid in anything you do. There will always be bad guys out there but it doesn't mean you have to stop going to the movies. I wish I didn't have to have this conversation with my 7-year-old but I can't shelter him from everything for the rest of his childhood. This is reality and sometimes reality stinks but it doesn't mean we have to crawl under a rock or live in a cave(no pun intended).
